Old Jærbanen

The walk along the Gamle Jærbanen is a beautifully landscaped 8.5 km gravel path that stretches from Egersund to Hellvik through stunning natural surroundings. The path follows a former railway line now converted into a trail. Along the way there are several nice rest areas where you can take a break and enjoy views of the sea.

The route is very suitable for both walking and cycling, and is also the first stage of the Nordsjørittet.

Unesco lunar landscape

The geology in Egersund is unique on a global scale. In fact, you'd have to go to the moon to see more anorthosite - the rock we have the most of - in one place! Egersund is located in a Magma Geopark that is recognised by UNESCO. There are only 140 such geoparks in the world. Check out Magma Geopark, an adventure of nature experiences for both young and old. Perhaps you've already heard of Trollpikken – the most famous rock formation here in Magma Geopark? Read more about Trollpikken here.

The beaches of Jæren

Jærstrendene are Norway's longest sandy beaches, stretching from Tungenes in the north to Sirevåg in the south, a total length of 70 kilometres. The coast of Jæren is unique, as there is no archipelago along this stretch, so you can enjoy the experience whatever the weather.
