Hiking in Egersund and the surrounding area
1. Troll dick
A spectacular natural formation that became known nationally and internationally in 2017 when it was cut down, only to be rebuilt shortly afterwards by local enthusiasts and sponsors.
The route is approximately 5 kilometres round trip and is suitable for both young and old, with gravel paths, footbridges and a few steep sections. It's well signposted and marked all the way. To get to the car park, drive to Kjervall.
Fancy a swim? There are several opportunities for a dip on your trip.
2. The old Jæren railway
A cosy and easy walk along the route of the former Jærbanen railway between Egersund and Hellvik. The trail consists of gravel paths and some bridges. Flat and easy to walk, even with a pram or jogging, it's also great for cycling back and forth. The walk is about 8 kilometres one way, but you can turn around at any time and go home again.
You'll find parking right next to NorEngros. If you don't want to walk the whole way, we also recommend taking the train to Hellvik and walking back.
3. The bridge mountain holes
Natural caves and holes shaped by waves and weather in limestone. Located at Åna-Sira, which is a short distance south of Egersund. The holes are located low in the mountain, which gives you a spectacular view of the sea. Most people are able to complete the tour, but it's not a tour for those who are afraid of heights as the last part of the tour has to be climbed down a rock face using ropes. The hike is approximately 3 kilometres round trip.
It's important to remember good footwear and we recommend walking in dry weather.
4. Trælafjellet
If you want great views of the fjord and mountains and the beautiful Ørsdalsvatnet lake, this is the trip for you. Drive to Vikeså and follow the signs for Bjerkreim, parking is available at Skineldvatnet above Lauperak. This is an incredibly beautiful hike with a medium level of difficulty, but you should be able to walk a little and have good waterproof footwear.
The trip is approximately 6.5 kilometres round trip.
5. Via Ferrata
Do you want to test your fear of heights? Then we recommend Via Ferrata Migaren at Jøssingfjord Science Museum or Via Ferrata Gloppedalsura. The tours are not technically demanding, but they are steep and high! It's an advantage if you've climbed with a harness and sling before, and in Gloppedalsura you'll need to be able to cope with cramped conditions.
