The theme this time is «Super Tuscans». An exciting term that emerged in the region in the 70s, originating around the small town of Bolgheri in the province of Livorno. These are wines usually based on French grape varieties from the «Bordeaux blend», which thus violate the Italian wine law in order to qualify for DOC/DOCG. IGT wines in this category can be of very high quality, and from the most recognised producers are often very expensive. But there are also many Supertuscans with excellent quality, at a reasonable price.
